Red, White and Blue

We have started our new topic called ‘Red, White and Blue’. During the topic the children will learn all about London. They will look at famous landmarks of the capital city, the Royal Family and will learn a little about the history of London. We will find out about the Great fire of London and the impact it had on how buildings were built and the Fire service.  We are linking Paddington Bear in literacy to London as he has had many adventures in the capital city and wrote many books about the different places he visited.  We have started our new topic called ‘Red, White and Blue’. Home learning

Home learning will be set on a Friday and is to be completed and returned to school by the following Wednesday. Your child will have maths, topic and literacy activities that are linked to the learning that has taken place during that week. Spelling are also sent home on a weekly basis linked to our spelling lessons. Your child's RM Easimaths log in and password are found at the back of their reading record so they can access this at home. Home learning should be an enjoyable, collaborative, interesting and challenging time for you and your child. If your child is unsure please support them with this and speak to me.

Reading

The children will be working hard on their reading and we would like to ask you for your support each night to read with your child. We encourage the children to read as much as possible and you play an important part in helping your child to read at home. You will find some questions inside your child’s reading record book that you could use to talk about the book after they have read it. It is important that children talk about the books they are reading to increase their comprehension skills. The children usually bring home an easier level book than the one they read in school, this is to increase their confidence and fluency. Please sign the reading record book if your child has read with you, as they are rewarded with stamps and sweets if they read every day.

Parents' Mornings

Please join us in January 2018 on Tuesday and Thursday Mornings for reading and maths activities.

P.E.

Your child will need their P.E. kit on a Wednesday and Friday most weeks but please make sure P.E. kits are in school all week to cover any sudden changes in the timetable.

Themes

We will be finding out about lots of exciting things and going on interesting trips linked to our topics in Year 1. In Key Stage 1 we are focusing on neat presentation, including handwriting. Please ensure that you encourage this.

  • Theme 1 - Travel and Transport
  • Theme 2 - Red, White and Blue
  • Theme 3 - Under the Sea
  • Theme 4 - Australian Adventures

Absence

It is important that your child attends school everyday as it provides a routine and develops your child’s learning. If your child is unwell, please contact the school office before 8.50am.
