Year 2 - Cool Cats - Mrs Smith

Our class weekly attendance for week beginning 20th November was 90.8%.

Our attendance so far this year in Cool Cats is 93.9%. We want our class attendance to be at 96% or above each week.

We have had a great week this week. I have been very impressed with the children's reading skills and discussions that have taken place whilst working on our new text 'The Flower'.

Home Learning
Home learning is sent home each Friday and should be returned by the following Tuesday. Your child will have maths, topic and literacy activities that are linked to the learning that has taken place during that week.

Spellings are also sent home on a Monday each week linked to our spelling focus in school.

This week's spellings are:

  • who
  • whole
  • any
  • many
  • clothes
  • busy
  • people
  • water
  • again
  • half

We encourage the children to read as much as possible and you play an important part in helping your child read at home. You will find some questions inside your child's reading record book that you could use to talk about the book after they have read it. It is important that children talk about the books thay are reading to increase their comprehension skills. Please sign the reading record book when your child reads to you.

Our reading stars are children that read every night. These children will be rewarded for their effort each week.

This half term the children will be working on counting forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s from a range of numbers. This will help the children with the mental addition and subtraction methods that we use in year 2. Please help us by counting with your child at home. We will also be focusing on multiplication strategies, division strategies, shape and position.

We are learning the story 'Paddington Bear' by Michael Bond and will be writing our own stories based on this.

Your child will need their P:E kit in school from a Monday to a Friday. Please ensure your child has a full outdoor kit (tracksuit, t-shirt, shorts and spare trainers) as we will be doing P.E outside when the weather permits.

These are the themes for the year ahead:

Theme 2 - Red, White and Blue
