Year 3/4 - Brainy Bunnies - Mrs Smedley

Attendance

Brainy Bunnies Weekly Attendance WB:22.1.18 - 98.7% WELL DONE!

Our new topic is ‘Eurovision’. Children will be learning about the geographical location of some of the countries that make up Europe. They will be looking closely at the country’s culture, traditions, landscape, capital city, flag and interesting landmarks / places of interest.

In Literacy we will be writing a persuasive text about visiting England and France, we will also be writing a travelling story about Europe.

In art we will be sketching and painting some of the European landmarks, while in music we will be singing songs from around Europe.

In Maths we will be continuing working hard to learn our times tables, we will also be focusing on division, fractions and shape.

We have high aspirations and expectations for all the children and hope they continue with the excellent start we have already made.

Throughout the rest of the year, we will also be covering the following topics:
Shake, Rattle & Roll
Tudors

We are very lucky to have fully qualified Sports Coaches working in school supporting our curriculum again this year. Our session with the sports coach will be on a Wednesday and our other PE session will be on a Tuesday. With this in mind please remember to send you child with an appropriate P.E kit every Monday (indoor & outdoor) to stay in school for a full week before being taken home.

Reading

Our Class Novel is 'The Snow Walker's Son'

The children will continue to work hard on their reading and I would like to ask you for your support each night to read with your child. We encourage the children to read as much as possible as you play an important part in helping your child to read at home. It is important that children understand and talk about the books they are reading. Please ensure you sign your child’s Reading Record every night, this is an important link between home and school and the children receive rewards and stamps each time they read at home.

Maths

Your child will be given a ‘target times table’ to learn every two weeks, details of what they need to learn will be in their home school records for you to check. I would like to ask for your support in helping your child learn these tables, it is an important skill that is transferable across many areas of mathematics.

Home Learning

Your child will bring home learning home on a Thursday and it can be returned during the following week. During this half term your child will also be given log in details for ‘Mathletics’ which will be kept at the back of their Reading Record. This  is a fun website where your child is able to complete extra maths challenges at home and win prizes for the points that they collect.

They will also be bringing spellings home each Monday to learn and we have a test on these spellings every Friday. Details of your child's weekly spellings and Home Learning tasks can be found on our class page every week.

Daily Mile

This year we are promoting health, fitness and aspirations. As part of this the children are going to attempt to run a mile a day (or as much as they can) so please ensure your child has appropriate footwear for this every day.

We have had two very exciting visitors come into school this week. On Tuesday we were lucky enough to work with the poet, Ian Bland.  We created our own poems and shared them in a whole school assembly. He taught us how fun poetry can be!

On Friday the athlete Jenny Wallwork came into school. We completed an exercise circuit and the children had to do a variety of exercises including star-jumps, press-ups and sit-ups.

Our awards this week go to:
