"Well done to all the children this week for working so hard and coming to school every day." Mrs Roe and Mrs Scullion

This term our topic is all about Eurovision. We will be learning about the geographical location of some of the countries that make up Europe. They will look at the country's culture, traditions, landscape, capital city, flag and interesting landmarks.

In Literacy we will be writing a persuasive text about visiting England, Scotland and France.

In Art we will be sketching and painting some of the European landmarks.

Throughout the rest of the year we will also be covering the following topics:

Shake, Rattle and Roll

Tudors

P.E

We are very lucky to have a fully qualified sports coach, helping to support our curriculum, again this year.  Our session with the sports coach is on a Wednesday and our other PE session is on a Thursday. It is very important your child brings an indoor and outdoor PE kit that would be suitable for the interchanging weather. Please ensure your child has appropriate footwear for outdoor PE sessions. The PE kit must be brought to school on a Monday, left in the cloakroom all week and taken home on Friday.

Daily Mile

This year we are promoting health, fitness and aspirations. As part of this the children are going to attempt to run a mile a day (or as much as they can), so please ensure your child has appropriate footwear for this everyday.

Reading

Our Class novel for this term is 'The Snow Walker's Son' by Catherine Fisher.

The children will continue to work hard on their reading and I would like to ask you for your support in listening to your child read on a regular basis. We encourage the children to read as much as possible and it is important they understand what they have read by talking about the books with an adult. Please ensure you sign your child’s Home School Book, this is an important link between home and school, and the children receive reward stamps each time they read at home.

Maths

Your child will be given a ‘target times table’ to learn every two weeks, details of what they need to learn will be in their home school records for you to check. I would like to ask for your support in helping your child learn these tables, it is an important skill that is transferable across many areas of mathematics. We will be covering multiplication, division, fractions and shape.

Home Learning

Your child will bring home learning home on a Thursday and it can be returned during the following week. Details of your child's home learning task can be found on our class page each week. During this half term your child will also be given log in details for ‘Mathletics’, this is a fun website where your child is able to complete extra maths challenges at home.

They will also be bringing spellings home each Monday to learn and we have a test on these spellings every Friday.
