Early Years Foundation Stage Hub
Our EYFS Vision
We want our children to flourish in our Early Years Foundation Stage.
We want our children to feel happy, valued and safe in their environment.
We want our children to respect themselves, each other, their environment and community. We want them to be healthy, enthusiastic and confident.
We want our children to be curious, independent and creative in all areas of learning and development. We want them to take ownership of their learning by following their own interests.
We want our children to take risks and challenge themselves and each other. We want them do establish effective and supportive relationships and to be able to work collaboratively.
About our EYFS
During the Summer of 2022, we made significant changes to our Early Years Foundation Stage Hub. We now have a free-flow approach to the EYFS where Nursery and Reception children access continuous provision together with small focused group times throughout the day. We believe these changes will enable us to enhance the learning experiences and ensure the best possible outcomes for our young children.
At King Edward Primary School, we understand that children develop rapidly during the early years – physically, academically, emotionally and socially and we therefore plan a curriculum that extends their knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence.
In our Early Years Foundation Stage, we plan using the EYFS ‘Birth to Five’ framework and equip all children with broad and balanced learning experiences. Our curriculum is literacy led, inspired and delivered through quality texts. The children take part in activities and experiences linked to a focused text. Each carefully selected text will last for between one and three weeks and will link to the rich learning experiences from all other areas of learning.
Children engage in a variety of experiences through a balance of structured, teacher led learning opportunities and child-initiated play. We encourage the children to be independent learners, developing their skills across all seven areas of learning:
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
-
Physical Development
-
Communication and Language development
-
Literacy
-
Mathematics
-
Understanding the World
-
Expressive Arts and Design
A vital aspect in the development of essential knowledge and skills is the use of continuous provision. This means that children are using and developing certain skills throughout the year on a daily/weekly basis. Continuous Provision practice and principles begin in Early Years Foundation Stage and support children to develop key life skills such as independence; innovation; creativity, enquiry; analysis and problem solving.
